...a slight movement caught her eye. Lacie pointed this out to the others, who had noticed nothing out of the ordinary. "Look," she called, "down there, something is not right." She swooped down to the pond ignoring Rosie’s call to come back. Cautiously hovering about four feet from the ground, she saw it – a tiny brown ball of fluff and feathers.
"Gracious," Lacie cried, "it’s a baby goose, all alone." The others flew down beside her and stared at the gosling.
"It can’t be," said Darcey knowingly."Baby geese always stay with their parents even when they’re grown sometimes."
"Well, I don’t see any geese parents around, do you?" said Lacie with some annoyance.
